I’m not really into the whole new year resolutions thing since they’re so easy to break. That said, I do still seek out to keep my life moving. I like to think that my life is on a roller coaster that only goes up since it keeps my mind thinking positively. That said, I still keep goals in mind each year, which are basically things that I do on a regular basis. It helps me keep up with my schedule. Some things I need to improve on, while others I just need to maintain. Now, onward with the thesis of the post.
1. Read at least 70 books this year. In the past I’ve usually only aimed to read at least 50 books, which I reached, and last year I aimed to read 60 and succeeded. Well, this year I’ve decided to push my book goal up to 70. I don’t think I’ll have any trouble hitting this goal, especially since I’m getting back into reading classic literature after nearly two years of taking a break from classic literature after I graduated from university. The break was needed because now that I’m reading some classic literature I have yet to read, I’m coming back with a fresh eye and appreciation.
2. Write every day. I mean it, truly I do. I give myself this goal every year and I start out good… then I start slacking. It really isn’t hard to write at least 500 words a day, whether it’s a blog post or on one of my manuscripts or a flash fiction. I really would like to revise/edit one of my completed first drafts so that I can send it off to be traditionally published. It’s always been my dream to publish a novel and I think this year is as good as any to get serious about the revision process so that I can turn that dream into a reality. I’m not exactly getting any younger here, either.
3. Get the materials to study to take the teacher’s certification. Right now I’m enjoying working as a Behavioral Health Teacher Assistant, but in the next year or two I’d like to be a certified teacher, teaching middle grade English.
4. Run 3x a week. This I have no trouble following through with. I’m being forced to layoff from running this week because my calves are sore, though it’s just muscle soreness. But I’m still doing my cardio, and I’m planning on doing more plank and lunge stretches. Hopefully I’ll be back running next week, though. It always stinks when I have to take any time off from running to give my muscles and body a break from the impact that running causes because it’s such a de-stressor. Everything just falls away when my feet hit that pavement.
And that’s it. Nothing else I can think of, goal wise. I have some other tasks/projects I’m hoping to get accomplished this year, but they aren’t really goals. More like milestones. What about you? Any goals for the new year that you’re hoping to keep?
